Welcome to Heading Home K9 Rescue!

Did you see a dog that caught your eye? Ready to start the adoption process? Happy to help! Feel free to email the dog's listed contact with any questions you have...the dogs live in our homes with us so we know them very well.

Please fill out the preadopt application (Heading Home K9 Rescue Preadopt Application) which is the first step to meeting/adopting a dog from HHK9. We read through the application, check references, and once approved (we aim for 2-3 days to approve or deny depending on how quickly references reply), we set up a visit with you and the foster home or direct you to an adoption event to meet the dog(s). Fosters are more than happy to answer questions that arise. We all want a good match the first time, and a successful experience for the adopter and the dog.

After meeting, you can choose to adopt if it seems like a good match. You will be required to complete the adoption contract and pay their adoption fee online. There is a 7 day trial on all adoptions to ensure there is time for the dog adjust and the fit between the dog and your home is right. If the adoption does not work out in that 7 day period, your adoption fee is refunded. We encourage adopters to give it a MINIMUM of 5 days. Returning a dog before that period means it never had a chance to settle in and show you what the true personality is like. Moving dogs between homes is stressful and not in the dog's best interests. We are here to support you after adoption also, answering questions and helping make the process as positive as we can. We highly recommend you read the tips in this packet (Adoption FAQ) before bringing your new dog home...it will help greatly ease the transition and make it a positive experience for everyone!

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable and average about $500 for adults and $550 for puppies which includes their vet work-spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing (if old enough),microchip, deworming, and current preventatives. Often the vet costs far exceed the adoption fee, especially on our special needs dogs. We rely on adoption fees to be able to continue to rescue more dogs in need.

Want to help support the dogs of Heading Home K9 Rescue without ever leaving your house....not even leaving your computer?!--- Check out our Amazon.com wish list here! We have compiled a short list of our favorite and most used supplies like toys, leashes/collars, bones, etc. You can purchase online and it will ship right to us. Thank you for helping make the holiday special for all the wonderful dogs at HHK9!

HEADING HOME DOGS LOOKING FOR HOMES:

Name: Ballet
Breed: Border Collie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Ballet is a gorgeous Border Collie puppy who was brought into the shelter after she was found wandering after puppy curfew. No one came for her so she is now looking for a home who will love her, train her, and put that smartypants border collie brain to work. Ballet is smart as a whip and learns so fast. She absolutely thrives on being given something to do to. Puzzle toys, flirt pole, training—yes please! Ballet is typical puppy so housetraining is a work in progress but she keeps her crate clean for the workday and overnight. She is fantastic with other dogs but will herd them playfully which doesn’t always go over well with some dogs especially the little ones. She has not been around cats but would need a proper introduction to them and reminders that they aren’t for play. Ballet is of the mindset that everything is for play! Due to her breed she would be best with older kids or a herding breed experienced home who understands the tendencies to heel nip and chase kiddos to tell them where to go. If you are looking for a super fun dog who wants to join in on adventures, learn anything you want to teach, and keep you active and on your toes, Ballet wants to meet you!

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $650 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Bernard
Breed: Pit Bull/ Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Bernard is a sensitive boy with a tough past. He came from an abusive situation where he was treated and corrected very roughly. Unfortunately this has left him with some trauma around his collar being grabbed or fast movements near his head. Once he trusts you, he hands you over his entire heart and he doesn’t mind handling of any kind. The good: he is excellent with other dogs and would actually do better with a confident dog in the home to follow. He is well housetrained, crates well but doesn’t need it, and minds his manners perfectly in the house. He is medium energy and loves to play and go for walks but he isn’t bouncing off the walls and likes to relax with a bone or for a snooze by your feet. The bad: He will not hand over his heart right away. He does seek affection and attention but he is nervous and needs a home who will take it slow and who will commit to management with movements near his collar (using slip leashes, verbal cues, etc). He will likely never be a social butterfly who wants to be best friends with everyone and immediately trust people. Though he has some drawbacks, we do believe Bernard will thrive in a home who commits to understanding his needs and quirks and takes the time to earn his trust. He takes some work but he is very worth it.

Requirements: Adult only home. Prefer a confident dog in the home for him to follow

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Cora
Breed: Pit Bull/ Bulldog Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Cora is a beefy bulldog type girl with a passion for sticks, full body snuggles, and roughhousing with a canine friend! She is super outgoing, full of snorts and wiggles, and has never met a person who wasn’t her instant best friend. She loves everyone of all ages though she fancies herself a lap dog which can sometimes translate to squishing the little kids with her big booty snuggles. Cora is housetrained, crates well but does need a bit of a reinforced crate because she learned to use her blocky head to push her way out of the usual wire crates…it may not be full of brain cells but it works as a battering ram! Cora is excellent with cats and can often be found snuggling with her feline foster friends. She is great with most other dogs and loves to play with them. She is all about wrestling and tearing up the yard running around! She does not enjoy other bossy dogs. She wants to be the one who is large and in charge so if she does go to a home with another dog (which she would love), they should be more neutral or passive. If you’ve been missing a super snuggly, snorting bulldozer in your life, Cora is ready to fill that role!

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Dishes
Breed: Husky/ Shepherd Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female
Size: Large when fully grown
Description: Dishes is a 5 month old Shepherd/ Husky purchased as a cute puppy and she sure is cute! Unfortunately dogs don’t train themselves and those cute puppy behaviors aren’t as cute in a bigger puppy who is knocking the kids down, chewing on everything, pottying all over, and darting out of the house. Dishes is a super outgoing, silly, mischief making pup. She is excellent with other dogs, loves humans though is a bit much for the little kids at her age with her lack of training, and needs a home without cats because of her overzealous interest in them. She is working on her housetraining, crates well, and is learning the basics of house manners and training. She would love a home who wants a social girl to train and love.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Dizzy
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Dizzy is a whirlwind of activity and shenanigans! If you are looking for a peaceful pooch to laze around with you, this is not the girl for you. If you are looking for an active companion for hikes, dog sports, adventures, and learning anything you want to teach her, Dizzy is right up your alley! She is a Shepherd mix, about 45 lbs and 10 months old. She is housetrained and crates well for the workday as long as she has an outlet for her energy prior and something to do in the crate (kong, chew bone, puzzle toy, etc). Dizzy is great with other large breed dogs but no small animals or cats for her please! She is best placed with adults because she still has that puppy mindset where people are her personal jungle gym and she hasn’t quite learned that kids aren’t just bowling pins to knock down and then drive-by kiss on her way while she runs onto the next activity.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Doc
Breed: Chihuahua/ Corgi Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Small
Description: Meet Doc: Small Dog, Big Attitude, Hates Dudes Looking for a tiny, drama-filled companion who will love you fiercely (and judge everyone else from the safety of your hoodie)? Say hello to Doc, an 11-pound Chihuahua/ Corgi with the soul of a grumpy old man and a very clear boundary: no men allowed. Doc isn’t shy about his feelings. If you’re a man, he’s not your friend. He doesn't want your treats, your attention, or your masculine energy anywhere near him. Beard? Nope. Deep voice? Not today. Baseball cap? War crime. However, if you’re a woman with a warm lap, decent snack offerings, and a love for chaotic little weirdos, Doc will worship the ground you walk on. He’s the canine version of that snarky best friend who hates all your exes and will fight anyone who makes you sad. Doc is housetrained, cratetrained, and fine with other dogs and cats (as long as they know he will be the boss and tell them so!) Available now to be your emotionally unstable little sidekick He may have trust issues, a Napoleon complex, and the bark of a demon gremlin—but he's your demon gremlin, and he’ll protect you like a bodyguard with a grudge. Swipe right on Doc. But only if you’re a woman. Seriously. He’s made that very clear.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Dolphin
Breed: Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: ~50 lbs
Description: Dolphin is an adorable husky type mix puppy who loves other dogs, loves to play, loves to sing the songs of her people, and loves to be held and loved on. She was an absolute favorite in the shelter and we can see why. Everyone falls in love with her! Dolphin is excellent with other large breed dogs and would love a playmate. Dolphin is working on her housetraining and is used to being crated for the workday but does need a big push to get her in there. She needs a home without shared walls since she earned her name by her high pitched squeal she makes when she is crated or excited. Its adorable if you like husky noises but if you don’t its significantly less so.

Requirements: No cats

Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Eevee
Breed: Shiba Inu
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Small
Description: Eevee was abandoned with a note telling the shelter her name, birthday, other info about her, and then ending with saying she was a very good girl, they love her so much, and to please find her a good home. Those notes break our hearts so much. Everything about Eevee from her temperament, to how clean and cared for she is, to the note tells us how deeply loved she was by her owners and how desperate their situation must have been to have to leave her. It is our job now to honor their request to find her a good home that loves her as much as they clearly did. Eevee is just over a year old. She is great with other dogs, cats, and all people. She is housetrained, crates well, and clearly used to being a loved house pooch. She has the silly puppy antics of tossing toys around and has the most adorable snow zoomies. She is a smaller gal, about 20 lbs and not expected to get much bigger.

Name: Emme
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Some dogs shout for attention. Emme whispers. This soft, soulful Shepherd mix (about 1–2 years old, 50 lbs) doesn’t push her way to the front—she gently crawls into your lap and melts into your arms like she was made to be there. With a heart as big as her eyes, Emme has quickly become a shelter favorite, stealing hearts with her quiet kindness and deep longing for connection. Shelter life isn’t for Emme with all the chaos and alone time and she is desperately hoping a foster steps up for her quickly. She is good with other dogs and seems to want to play but isn’t quite sure how to initiate it. Being in a shelter setting we don’t know if she is housetrained but she does keep her kennel clean. She is overall a quieter girl though she has the saddest, sweetest howl that makes you want to give her everything in the world just to make her happy.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Gimmick
Breed: Husky/ Malinois Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Gimmick is a 9 month old husky/ Malinois mix. If you are familiar with either of those breeds we are sure you just cringed so hard thinking of that mix. To give some perspective, think of the most chaotic traits of both breeds. Yep, that’s Gimmick in a nutshell! She is wicked smart, loves to yell about anything and everything, and we’re not sure she ever stops moving. She is working hard to learn to have an off-switch, loves to learn new things though there’s a healthy dash of that husky stubbornness in there, and anything you want to do with her she is all in. All in, all the time is her motto in life. Running in the backyard? Full speed. Playing fetch? A contact sport according to her. Playing with other dogs? You mean those 4 legged bowling pins she just ran over while sprinting to break the world record. Gimmick is outgoing, loves people but is best with adults or very sturdy older teens. She is good with other large dogs but no small animal or cats. She is housetrained, crates well in a sturdy crate, and has absolutely zero manners in the house but her foster is working hard with her. She’s a future good girl for sure! If you like chaos and like to question your life choices, come meet Gimmick! She will not disappoint in either department.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Harry is housetrained and crates for the workday though he is a vocal dude in the crate so needs a home with no shared walls or your neighbors will not want to be friends anymore. He runs around with pure abandon and gives his heart completely to everyone he meets. Hurricane loves other dogs but can be overwhelming for more mellow or smaller dogs. No cats for him please though! Hurricane spent a lot of time existing on his own in a yard before so he is learning all about being in the house and he is loving the attention and being with his people. Name: Laina
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Laina is a girl who's life got turned upside down when her owners became homeless and could no longer care for her. She came to us shy, scared, and slow to trust because her people were all she knew. Her foster managed to break through that shell though, and the dog we found underneath is an amazing girl. Once she gets to know you, she gives you her heart and soul. Her foster mom's shadow, Laina follows her everywhere! (Good luck trying to pee in peace again.) We're pretty sure her motto in life is "Every minute I'm not being pet is 60 seconds of waste!". She's a champion snuggler and the second your butt hits the couch she is there to help share the cushion, the blanket, and your popcorn! She loves the other dogs in her foster home and doesn't even mind the cats. She crates well for the work day. She sounds perfect you might say, so what's the catch? Laina is slow to accept meeting new people and needs a home with the experience to handle a girl with trust issues. Laina is not the type of pup who wants to go out to the dog park or the local block party. She's more the type of pup who likes having a small group of trusted friends (I'm pretty sure a lot of us can relate to that!), the whole quality vs quantity thing.

Requirements: Quiet adult home

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Mazzie
Breed: Husky
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Mazzie is a spitfire of a husky with endless love for her people, a bit of a mischievous streak, and a bit of the classic husky sass! She is an awesome girl. She loves to snuggle, loves to hang out with her people, and is always up for meeting new people. She is housetrained on a schedule, crates for the workday but hates the crate and needs either a sturdy crate or a dog-proofed area to stay. She loves her walks and loves to toss toys around and chew on bones. Her mischievous streak you may ask? This girl is a counter surfer! She is so talented in it she has been known to take dishes out of the sink so delicately in fact that she doesn’t even break them. So she needs someone to keep working on this and keeping things put away so she doesn’t have the opportunity to be inadvertently rewarded for it. Mazzie is excellent with dogs, loves all people, but does like to chase cats too much for her to be safe placed with them. She is a husky and does like to sing the song of her people when she has something to say so needs a home without a shared walls. She would be best with a fenced yard or someone committed to leashed walks (not tie-out) due to her willingness to be a typical husky and go exploring on her own.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Mouse loves other dogs, especially those that will play with him, and really relies on having a confident dog around to follow to help show him new things are ok. Name: Nibbles
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Nibbles has spent the last year being bounced from home to home to home before ending up in a local shelter. The reasons you may ask? She sheds too much, she pulls on the leash, too much barking for an apartment, too much energy. Rehoming a dog that doesn’t fit your lifestyle is never a bad thing but it’s certainly important to research the breed you get first. Nibbles is a German Shepherd. Yep, she sheds. Yep, she’s got energy to burn and no one has spent time training her on the leash. Yep, she barks when she’s got something to say or hears something. If these bother you, Nibbles (or any German Shepherd) isn’t for you. If you want a smart, fun, energetic companion who would follow you to the ends of the earth if you asked her to she is most definitely for you. Nibbles is housetrained, crates well, and minds her manners in the house. She needs some work on leash manners and not jumping up on people but she picks things up fast and her desire to be told she is a good girl makes her a breeze to work with. She is good with other large breed dogs but no cats for her please. Nibbles is best suited for an adult/older child home. She is about 70 lbs, 3 years old.

Requirements: No cats. No young kids.

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Rudolph
Breed: Shepherd/ Lab Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Rudolph (Rudy) the red haired puppy may not be leading any sleighs but he will for sure be leading his way right into your heart. He was reported to be found tied up to a street pole and no one claimed him or knew how he got there. Rudy is a lovebug through and through. He loves people with all his heart and is so smart and responsive to anything his handler asks of him. His manners are a work in progress at times (jumping up to give hugs is his kryptonite) but he learns so fast. Rudy is reliable off leash once he knows his home, housetrained, crates quietly, gets along with other dogs, cats, and kids. He loves to play fetch and with toys, loves his walks and hikes, but he knows how to settle and will snooze happily right by your feet. He is such an outstanding boy and going to make someone so happy they chose him!

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Rusty
Breed: Lab/Pit Bull Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Rusty is a middle-aged Lab/Pit Bull mix who does not understand how he landed himself in the shelter. Quite frankly, we don’t either. This guy is wonderful! At about 7 years old he is well past the crazy puppy stages and settled into being a well-mannered, housetrained, cratetrained but doesn’t need it and prefers to be loose in the house, easy to live with type guy. He absolutely loves to go for walks and when you pull his leash out he turns right back into a puppy with excitement. He walks well on the leash after an initial bout of excitement pulling and knows basic commands. Rusty has lived with dogs and cats and does well with all. He is loving and friendly to all people. We can’t say enough good things about Rusty. He isn’t flashy in looks, he isn’t a cute little puppy anymore, but he’s got years and years of experience being a good boy to share with a forever home.

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Smeargle
Breed: Lab Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Smeargle is a 9 month old lanky Lab mix with giant ears that look like he could fly. He can’t fly but his ears are excellent for petting and whispering secrets into. Like a good best friend he won’t tell those secrets either. Smeargle can confirm he is an excellent secret keeper. In fact he is such a good secret keeper he isn’t telling who stole the loaf of bread off the counter, him or his foster brother though we suspect this might be less about secret keeping and more about pleading the fifth. Smeargle is a loveable goofball. He loves to play with toys, loves to play with other dogs, and is interested but respectful of the cats and when one smacked him he wanted nothing more to do with it. He is finishing up learning the housetraining and crates well for the workday. He loves walks and playtime and is looking for an active home that wants to include him in all sorts of fun times.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Timmy Toofers
Breed: Boxer Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male
Size: Medium when fully grown
Description: Timmy Toofers is an adorable boxer type mix with the cutest little underbite smile you will ever see. It is fitting that he smiles all the time given that he is such a happy little dude. Timmy Toofers is excellent with dogs and loves to play with them. He thinks the cats are a bit scary in a way that makes him give them a wide berth. He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and minds his manners well in the house. He does seem a bit like he’s been limited in his life experiences as toys absolutely baffle him and if you raise your voice or your hand too fast it sends him skittering, but he hands his heart over so completely after a few kind words. Timmy Toofers loves to be snuggled and loves to be held. He doesn’t even mind being carried around like a todder—in fact he loves it! Any love he gets he just soaks up. Timmy Toofers is an absolute delight and he is going to make whoever picks him laugh and smile every day.
