Welcome to Heading Home K9 Rescue!

Did you see a dog that caught your eye? Ready to start the adoption process? Happy to help! Feel free to email the dog's listed contact with any questions you have...the dogs live in our homes with us so we know them very well.

Please fill out the preadopt application (Heading Home K9 Rescue Preadopt Application) which is the first step to meeting/adopting a dog from HHK9. We read through the application, check references, and once approved (we aim for 2-3 days to approve or deny depending on how quickly references reply), we set up a visit with you and the foster home or direct you to an adoption event to meet the dog(s). Fosters are more than happy to answer questions that arise. We all want a good match the first time, and a successful experience for the adopter and the dog.

After meeting, you can choose to adopt if it seems like a good match. You will be required to complete the adoption contract and pay their adoption fee online. There is a 7 day trial on all adoptions to ensure there is time for the dog adjust and the fit between the dog and your home is right. If the adoption does not work out in that 7 day period, your adoption fee is refunded. We encourage adopters to give it a MINIMUM of 5 days. Returning a dog before that period means it never had a chance to settle in and show you what the true personality is like. Moving dogs between homes is stressful and not in the dog's best interests. We are here to support you after adoption also, answering questions and helping make the process as positive as we can. We highly recommend you read the tips in this packet (Adoption FAQ) before bringing your new dog home...it will help greatly ease the transition and make it a positive experience for everyone!

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable and average about $450 for adults and $475 for puppies which includes their vet work-spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing (if old enough),microchip, deworming, and current preventatives. Often the vet costs far exceed the adoption fee, especially on our special needs dogs. We rely on adoption fees to be able to continue to rescue more dogs in need.

Want to help support the dogs of Heading Home K9 Rescue without ever leaving your house....not even leaving your computer?!--- Check out our Amazon.com wish list here! Size: Large
Description: Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice! And here appears this handsome boy. Except you don't have to say his name 3 times...he's right there from the get go ready for the next adventure. Beetlejuice is a young German Shepherd/ Husky mix (best guess) who ended up in doggy jail after being found running as a stray and no one coming to claim him. He is excellent with other dogs and loves people. He is a BIG boy and needs some manners about not jumping up and being overzealous with his love so is best suited for a home with older kids and someone willing to put in some training to teach him good manners. Beetle loves to go for walks, loves to play fetch, and is happiest going on any adventure his human wants to take him on. He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and knows basic commands. If you are an active home looking for a smart, energetic buddy, check out this boy!

Name: Bucket
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: Young Adulr
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Bucket is a goofy name for a goofy pup! This German Shepherd is gorgeous, outgoing, social, and just a little bit naughty. Well, he's not naughty so much as he has never been taught manners or how to play appropriately. Bucket loves people, cannot get enough of people, but his love often is shown in jumping all over, bouncing off, and mouthing. This was probably adorable when he was a little puppy and his owners never corrected it and even encouraged it. But from a 70 lb and growing dog, it's more painful than adorable. Bucket is not at all mean or aggressive, he is untrained and it shows. The progress he has made in learning appropriate interactions in even a week is outstanding and we know he will be an incredible dog for someone who puts the time into training him. He already has an exceptional temperament and his potential is sky high. Bucket LOVES the water and the kiddie pools, loves toys, and is learning that fetch is way more fun when you bring the ball back to be thrown again. He is very friendly with other dogs but very overbearing so will need a home who will monitor interactions and separate to make sure the other dog is not overwhelmed by him. He is not good with cats. Due to his mouthy behavior he should not be placed with kids. He is doing well on his housetraining and cratetraining with a schedule and repetition. If you have the patience, time, and experience to put some training in, Bucket is going to be amazing. As with all dogs under 2, he is required to be signed up for a basic training class prior to adoption to set everyone up for success. Bucket is not a match for an apartment setting.

Requirements: Training class sign up required. No cats. No kids

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Bunty
Breed: Spaniel/ Aussie Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Bunty is a medium sized spaniel Aussie mix, currently shaved down due to extreme matting from his time as a stray. He holds no grudges for his previous lack of care and sat wonderfully for his shave down, happy for some treats and attention. Bunty gets along great with other dogs, friendly to everyone he meets, and is a total sweetheart. He is in a shelter setting so housetraining is unknown but he hates to potty in his kennel run so we suspect it’s there but might need a refresher in a home. He crates nicely and minds his manners in the house as well. Bunty is a great boy, looking for a forever home to show him the love and care he’s missed out on so far in his life.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Dobby
Breed: Lab Mix

Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Dobby is a 1 year old, 40 lbs Lab type mix with a forever puppy spirit. There is nothing this guy loves more than playing in the yard with other dogs. He LOVES other dogs and would be happiest in a home with another dog or someone who wants a dog park pooch. He is good with cats and loves all people. He does jump up when he meets people but he is learning his manners. He is food motivated and would be the star of an obedience class. Dobby is housetrained and crates well. He does have a bit of a naughty streak and will chew on the kid’s toys and sometimes a shoe if he can get it but the kiddos are getting better about picking up and he is learning to keep his mouth to himself. Name: Fendi
Breed: Pit Bull/ Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Fendi is a uniquely colored bi colored eye girl who isn't just a pretty face. Nope, this sweetheart also has a great personality and some training under her belt! She is housetrained (though with any dog expect accidents as she transitions), crates well, and minds her manners in the house. She adores people of all ages though the little ones might get bumped over from her playful nature. She has the energy you would expect from a husky and a pittie so needs daily outlets for her energy—walks/runs, playtime, training, etc. Fendi was well known in a local impound for her frequent visits. We aren't sure if she is an escape artist or if her frequent trips out of her house were due to no fault of her own but just in case she will need a securely fenced yard or an owner committed to leashing her (not tie-out) when outside in an unfenced area. She is good with other large breed playful dogs but is a bit too pushy in play and too much for bossy dogs or for smaller dogs. She cannot go to a home with cats or small animals. Fendi is super smart and loves to learn things. She knows how to sit, shake, and lay down. Her leash manners could use a bit of work but even with just a few training sessions she is picking up loose leash walking like an absolute champ. If you are looking for a smart, active, social dog who is ready to go on any adventure with you, Fendi wants to be your pooch!

Requirements: No cats

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Kanga
Breed: Lab Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Kanga is a big silver Lab who has been passed over in the shelter for far too long. He has gotten to spend the last month in a temp foster to avoid euthanasia when the shelter filled up. The foster has said he is an absolute delight to live with. He is housetrained, crates well, and has good manners in the house. He lives with kids, cats, and other dogs and is amazing with everyone. He is about 2-3 years old and 55 lbs. He absolutely loves his walks, playtime, and the kids tossing the ball around for him but this boy is also a champion foot warmer and loves to relax and snuggle with his people. Kanga deserves a forever home so much. He’s paid his dues in the shelter being passed over for being “ordinary”. He’s too good of a dog for his life to end in a shelter. Please consider this sweetheart.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Max
Breed: Corgi Mix
Age: Mature Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Small-Medium
Description: Max is a middle-aged corgi mix who has settled into the perfect companion pooch. He is low-rider with his shorty legs and gets along fantastically with everyone. He does have a bit of a penchant for chasing the kitties in his foster home so would be best in a home without cats or at least without those that will run for him. He doesn’t ever hurt them but he does enjoy watching them run. Max is about 8 years old and a mellow guy though peps up for walks. He has been heartworm treated and is all ready to find his forever home. He does have a previously partial ACL tear but it doesn’t limit him getting around.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $450 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Mazzie
Breed: Husky
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Mazzie is a Husky found as an unclaimed stray and not reclaimed. We can’t imagine someone not wanting this girl! She is excellent with dogs and adores all people. She does think cats are a bit too fun to chase so needs a cat free home. She is surprisingly quiet for a husky though sometimes will give a quiet woo-woo for attention. She is housetrained and used to being crated for the workday. Mazzie is truly as beautiful in personality and she is in looks. She is laid-back but never turns down a romp in the snow or a walk! She is about 45 lbs and 4 years old.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Palmer
Breed: Cattle Dog Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Palmer is a cute medium sized pooch, about 7-9 months old. He was found in a park and thought playing with the kids and teens there was great. Despite them looking for his people no one claimed him or knew him. Palmer is a fun, happy-go-lucky, thrilled to be a part of things pup. He is a toy fanatic and loves to carry his toys and toss them around for himself; he loves even more when people join in the game with him. He is very dog friendly and wants to play. He was interested in the cats but not aggressive. We suspect he might give chase out of play but when the cat he met swatted him he backed right off. He is housetrained and crates quietly. He's a smarty pants and loves to engage with his people making training a breeze!

Requirements: Training sign up

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Randy
Breed: Catahoula/ Lab Mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Randy Travis is a certified good boy! He is a 4-5 year old catahoula mix (we think with lab) who is friendly and good with many creatures. He has been around dogs, cats, chickens and other farm animals with no issue. He came into the shelter in rough condition- had heartworm disease, was skinny but he has had some TLC and heartworm treatment so he is ready for his own home. Randy is good in the home and 99.9 % house trained, though in a new environment he will try to mark a bit, so a belly band at the outset works well for him. He is both handsome and smart, so someone is going to get lucky with him!

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Siren
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Siren is a 1-2 year old female German Shepherd who was found in a local park emaciated and scared to death. She has come a long way from the dog who was 30 lbs on intake and is now a healthy 55 lbs. She takes a bit to come out of her shell with new people and places but once she settles in her puppy side shines through! She loves nothing more than playing with other dogs and chasing toys around the yard. She would love another large breed dog to play with. Her confidence grows exponentially with another dog to follow. She can be a bit of a pushy player so best with a dog who doesn't mind a little overexhuberance, however she does back off very well to a correction from dog or human. Siren is learning the housetraining and crates well. She uses the crate as her safe space when she is nervous or overwhelmed and is very comfortable in there. She loves attention, loves to be petted, and snuggles like a champion though she is less like a cuddle friend and more like a blanket as she drapes across you. Siren has the energy you would expect from a young German Shepherd so she needs a home committed to walks, playtime, and training to keep her exercised and happy. As with all dogs under 2, she is required to be signed up for training classes prior to adoption. She loves to learn, loves to hear what a good girl she is, and loves food so training her is a breeze.

Requirements: Training sign up required

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Skinwalker
Breed: Pit Bull/ Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Ok, I know what you’re thinking….Skinwalker?! But hear me out. If you walked into dark room and saw only her ice blue eyes staring in the dark at you I swear you would understand. She unfortunately came to the shelter in poor shape and she has not had many life experiences or socialization and was absolutely terrified initially of everyone and everything. She also had some wounds that went unaddressed and got infected. Don't worry she is on the mend and in foster care now. Once she figured out that people were nice she now is sure we are best friends. She now attempts to crawl into you for closer cuddles. She desperately wants to play with other dogs but is also scared of them so she flings herself down and play bows but then runs back to her safe person. She is learning that dogs and people won’t hurt her and she loves it. She needs stability and socialization to be her best self but she is young and learns so fast. She is in foster care and getting more confident everyday. If she goes to a home with kids, they need to be older kids that can understand she might be shy at first and not overwhelm her. As with all dogs under 2, we do require her be signed up for a basic training course to set everyone up for success.

Requirements: Training sign up required

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

He loves people wants nothing more that to crawl in your lap for love. He is great with other dogs. Name: Starbuck
Breed: Your guess is as good as ours!
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium-Large
Description: All the single puppers! (All the single puppers) All the single puppers! (All the single puppers). Now put your paws up! Sometimes we are baffled by the dogs that end up in rescue. Meet Starbuck! Starbuck is 2-3 years old (what is your best guess at dog breed? She looks like she might have some pittie, but other than that, we've not a clue). She was an unclaimed stray, who was clipped by a car and escaped with only a broken dew claw (completely vet checked). We fully expected her to be reclaimed with how sweet and in good shape she is, but no one ever called or came looking for her. Starbuck is a friendly, medium energy dog, who strolled right into the house and plopped herself down on the dog bed like she owned the place. But she did it in such a way that the other dogs in the house didn't object. She completely ignored the cats. She was introduced to horses and, while surprised, took it in stride. She isn't perfect on the leash, but new areas and smells are hard to pass up. She will improve with practice, we expect. No accidents in the house so far and she is great in the crate! This dog has a quiet confidence that is wonderful to see! She is curious about everything but not alarmed. Whatever her background is, she appears to know all about being a house dog with other animals. So if you like it, then you should put a leash on it!

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Tarot
Breed: Belgian Tervuren/ Dutch Shepherd Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: A pretty face and legs up to here, Tarot has all the makings of a model. He doesn't have a big head about it though! This humble guy came into a local impound after suffering a horrific injury at the hands of someone who had just purchased him in the days prior. He has spent the last few months healing and his wound is almost fully healed and he is nearly ready to find his forever home! He is an absolute love. He had endless patience with all the bandage changes, the cone wearing, and the vet visits. He didn't enjoy the short term restricted activity though! Thankfully it was only a week and he was cleared to be his playful self. This guy is the energy level you'd expect from his breeds and needs an active home who can tire him out mentally and physically. He is smart, he loves to work out puzzle and food toys, and is an excellent walking/jogging partner. He is quite the water dog as well! He is excellent with dogs and likes to play with them though equally loves his humans and would be happy in a home with or without another dog. He is housetrained and crates well but prefers to be in a dog-proofed area rather than a crate when alone. He is gated in the hallway with a bone and dog bed at his foster home and he does much better with that than in the crate

Requirements: Training sign up required

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Zephyr
Breed: Shepherd/ Lab Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Zephyr is a young shepherd/ lab type guy with long legs and a lanky body. Who knows if he’s just in an awkward growth stage or if he’s just kind of an awkward looking dude. He is playful, fun, loves everyone, and all around a pretty unflappable dog. He is housetrained on a schedule and crates well. He is excellent with other dogs and wants to play with them. Cats are unknown currently but we suspect he might want to play with them too. Zephyr loves toys and will happily chase after toys and shake the stuffing out of the fluff ones. He jumps for joy when he sees the leash come out and though strong on the leash he is learning that pulling ahead like a freight train gets him nowhere. He loves the kids and all people. He is a really spectacular dog for someone wanting a young dog that is a do anything, go anywhere companion.
