Welcome to Heading Home K9 Rescue!

Did you see a dog that caught your eye? Ready to start the adoption process? Happy to help! Feel free to email the dog's listed contact with any questions you have...the dogs live in our homes with us so we know them very well.

Please fill out the preadopt application (Heading Home K9 Rescue Preadopt Application) which is the first step to meeting/adopting a dog from HHK9. We read through the application, check references, and once approved (we aim for 2-3 days to approve or deny depending on how quickly references reply), we set up a visit with you and the foster home or direct you to an adoption event to meet the dog(s). Fosters are more than happy to answer questions that arise. We all want a good match the first time, and a successful experience for the adopter and the dog.

After meeting, you can choose to adopt if it seems like a good match. You will be required to complete the adoption contract and pay their adoption fee online. There is a 7 day trial on all adoptions to ensure there is time for the dog adjust and the fit between the dog and your home is right. If the adoption does not work out in that 7 day period, your adoption fee is refunded. We encourage adopters to give it a MINIMUM of 5 days. Returning a dog before that period means it never had a chance to settle in and show you what the true personality is like. Moving dogs between homes is stressful and not in the dog's best interests. We are here to support you after adoption also, answering questions and helping make the process as positive as we can. We highly recommend you read the tips in this packet (Adoption FAQ) before bringing your new dog home...it will help greatly ease the transition and make it a positive experience for everyone!

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable and average about $450 for adults and $475 for puppies which includes their vet work-spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm testing (if old enough),microchip, deworming, and current preventatives. Often the vet costs far exceed the adoption fee, especially on our special needs dogs. We rely on adoption fees to be able to continue to rescue more dogs in need.

Want to help support the dogs of Heading Home K9 Rescue without ever leaving your house....not even leaving your computer?!--- Check out our Amazon.com wish list here! Description: Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice! And here appears this handsome boy. Except you don't have to say his name 3 times...he's right there from the get go ready for the next adventure. Beetlejuice is a young German Shepherd/ Husky mix (best guess) who ended up in doggy jail after being found running as a stray and no one coming to claim him. He is excellent with other dogs and loves people. He is a BIG boy and needs some manners about not jumping up and being overzealous with his love so is best suited for a home with older kids and someone willing to put in some training to teach him good manners. Beetle loves to go for walks, loves to play fetch, and is happiest going on any adventure his human wants to take him on. He is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and knows basic commands. If you are an active home looking for a smart, energetic buddy, check out this boy!

Name: Boyd
Breed: American Bully
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Boyd is a 3-4 year old black, stocky, big headed, bully type dog, who is really a calm, level headed guy. He is currently fostered with other dogs and cats, as well as an assortment of outdoor animals and is doing fine with all of them. He is playful with the other dogs, but is really a people-oriented kind of guy so would do well alone in the home too. He isn't crated currently, but would be fine with it. He is definitely an experienced, in-the-home guy. Not only is he doing excellent with his potty training refresher, he also does not jump on the furniture. He instead likes to lounge around on a dog bed and spends the night curled up on his own foam dog bed in the bedroom. He isn't a chewer or a barker. He did announce that Amazon had arrived with a delivery, but he was chorusing along with the other dogs. Along with walks and naps, his favorite pastime is sitting next to his foster dad's chair and getting pats. This blockhead might not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but he is definitely treat-motivated and therefore trainable. He already knows basic commands like sit and shake and is working on down. He pulls a bit on the leash, but is improving all the time. He also has excellent recall off leash. While he is definitely calm, he also needs his daily walks. And a rope to tug on or even a big stall ball to play with outdoors. This guy has been well socialized and is ready to join you on your adventures. Or just hanging out, watching sports or a movie.

Requirements: No special requirements

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Bucket
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: Young Adulr
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: Bucket is a goofy name for a goofy pup! This German Shepherd is gorgeous, outgoing, social, and just a little bit naughty. Well, he's not naughty so much as he has never been taught manners or how to play appropriately. Bucket loves people, cannot get enough of people, but his love often is shown in jumping all over, bouncing off, and mouthing. This was probably adorable when he was a little puppy and his owners never corrected it and even encouraged it. But from a 70 lb and growing dog, it's more painful than adorable. Bucket is not at all mean or aggressive, he is untrained and it shows. The progress he has made in learning appropriate interactions in even a week is outstanding and we know he will be an incredible dog for someone who puts the time into training him. He already has an exceptional temperament and his potential is sky high. Bucket LOVES the water and the kiddie pools, loves toys, and is learning that fetch is way more fun when you bring the ball back to be thrown again. He is very friendly with other dogs but very overbearing so will need a home who will monitor interactions and separate to make sure the other dog is not overwhelmed by him. He is not good with cats. Due to his mouthy behavior he should not be placed with kids. He is doing well on his housetraining and cratetraining with a schedule and repetition. If you have the patience, time, and experience to put some training in, Bucket is going to be amazing. As with all dogs under 2, he is required to be signed up for a basic training class prior to adoption to set everyone up for success. Bucket is not a match for an apartment setting.

Requirements: Training class sign up required. No cats. No kids

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

She would absolutely love a home with another dog to help build her confidence in the world. Cabbi is a total sweetheart. She loves to snuggle once she knows you and will toss toys around and chase them down delighting in the simple joys in life. Name: Fendi
Breed: Pit Bull/ Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Fendi is a uniquely colored bi colored eye girl who isn't just a pretty face. Nope, this sweetheart also has a great personality and some training under her belt! She is housetrained (though with any dog expect accidents as she transitions), crates well, and minds her manners in the house. She adores people of all ages though the little ones might get bumped over from her playful nature. She has the energy you would expect from a husky and a pittie so needs daily outlets for her energy—walks/runs, playtime, training, etc. Fendi was well known in a local impound for her frequent visits. We aren't sure if she is an escape artist or if her frequent trips out of her house were due to n o fault of her own but just in case she will need a securely fenced yard or an owner committed to leashing her (not tie-out) when outside in an unfenced area. She is good with other large breed playful dogs but is a bit too pushy in play and too much for bossy dogs or for smaller dogs. She cannot go to a home with cats or small animals. Fendi is super smart and loves to learn things. She knows how to sit, shake, and lay down. Her leash manners could use a bit of work but even with just a few training sessions she is picking up loose leash walking like an absolute champ. If you are looking for a smart, active, social dog who is ready to go on any adventure with you, Fendi wants to be your pooch!

Requirements: No cats

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Locust
Breed: Lab Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male
Size: Large when fully grown
Description: Locust is a young Lab mix who is everything people love about Labs. He is outgoing, loves everyone, great with dogs and loves to play, doesn’t mind the kitties, and has the puppy zest for life! He found himself in jail after being found on his own and no one came to claim him. Someone lost a treasure in this pup! He is everything a well-socialized, stable pup should be. He is a typical puppy so a forever home should prepare for all the puppy fun, socialization, training, and everything takes to make a puppy into the best dog they can be. We highly recommend training classes to set everyone up for success. Housetraining and cratetraining have been started but expect to continue working on it. Puppies can hold their bladders on average for 1 hour more than their age in months (ex: 3 month old puppy should be able to hold it about 4 hours). Puppies play hard, sleep hard, and love hard. The puppy stage can be tough but so worth it!

Requirements: Training sign up recommended

Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Mazzie
Breed: Husky
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Mazzie is a Husky found as an unclaimed stray and not reclaimed. We can’t imagine someone not wanting this girl! She is excellent with dogs and adores all people. She does think cats are a bit too fun to chase so needs a cat free home. She is surprisingly quiet for a husky though sometimes will give a quiet woo-woo for attention. She is housetrained and used to being crated for the workday. Mazzie is truly as beautiful in personality and she is in looks. She is laid-back but never turns down a romp in the snow or a walk! She is about 45 lbs and 4 years old.

Requirements: No special requirements

Name: Mouse
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male
Size: Large when fully grown
Description: Mouse is a very timid GSD (mix?) puppy who hasn’t had many life experiences and it’s left him unsure of everything—new people, new noises, wearing a collar/leash, etc. He is a shy guy that needs a home who will help bring his confidence out and give him the happy puppyhood he deserved to have. Mouse loves other dogs, especially those that will play with him, and really relies on having a confident dog around to follow to help show him new things are ok. Once he knows you, he is a loyal friend who wants to follow you everywhere, sit in your lap, and bring you all his toys for you to enjoy. Mouse is food motivated which helps his training immensely. The potential for him is there and a confident dog is right under the surface. In a patient, experienced home who will take the time and put in the work he will absolutely flourish!

Requirements: Training sign up recommended

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Palmer
Breed: Cattle Dog/ Terrier Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Medium
Description: Palmer is a cute medium sized pooch, about a year old. He was found in a park and thought playing with the kids and teens there was great. Despite them looking for his people no one claimed him or knew him. Palmer is a fun, happy-go-lucky, thrilled to be a part of things pup. He is a toy fanatic and loves to carry his toys and toss them around for himself; he loves even more when people join in the game with him. He is very dog friendly and wants to play. He was interested in the cats but not aggressive. We suspect he might give chase out of play but when the cat he met swatted him he backed right off. He is housetrained and crates quietly. He's a smarty pants and loves to engage with his people making training a breeze! He is the ideal dog for a home who wants a dog to train, maybe take on hikes, and do something with. He is up for anything!

Name: Siren
Breed: German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Large
Description: Siren is a 1-2 year old female German Shepherd who was found in a local park emaciated and scared to death. She has come a long way from the dog who was 30 lbs on intake and is now a healthy 55 lbs. She takes a bit to come out of her shell with new people and places but once she settles in her puppy side shines through! She loves nothing more than playing with other dogs and chasing toys around the yard. She would love another large breed dog to play with. Her confidence grows exponentially with another dog to follow. She can be a bit of a pushy player so best with a dog who doesn't mind a little overexhuberance, however she does back off very well to a correction from dog or human. Siren is learning the housetraining and crates well. She uses the crate as her safe space when she is nervous or overwhelmed and is very comfortable in there. She loves attention, loves to be petted, and snuggles like a champion though she is less like a cuddle friend and more like a blanket as she drapes across you. Siren has the energy you would expect from a young German Shepherd so she needs a home committed to walks, playtime, and training to keep her exercised and happy. As with all dogs under 2, she is required to be signed up for training classes prior to adoption. She loves to learn, loves to hear what a good girl she is, and loves food so training her is a breeze.

Requirements: Training sign up required

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Skinwalker(aka Winnie)
Breed: Pit Bull/ Husky Mix
Age: Young Adult

Description: Skinwalker (aka Winnie) is a dog’s best friend. Seriously, this girl LOVES other dogs so much. She is the first to play, the first to make friends, and happily throws play bows immediately when she meets other dogs. Her ideal home would have another dog in it though she loves humans as well. She can be a little shyer at first with new people and will hang by who she knows but she warms up quick and after that is your best friend. Winnie is housetrained, crates well for the workday, and minds her manners in the house well. She is oddly ungraceful with her extra lanky legs and often not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree but she is the by far the happiest and finds the joy in every minute of life.

Name: Stuffy
Breed: Husky/ Pomeranian Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female
Size: Medium
Description: Stuffy is a husky/Pomeranian who is everything a Pomsky should be—good, bad, and everything in between. If you like a dog with lots of personality, mischief, and sass then you will love Stuffy. If you want a quiet, mellow dog who always minds and never talks back then Stuffy is not for you. She is heavy on the husky in looks but in a smaller, petite package. Stuffy adores other dogs and loves to play with them. She is a bit pushy in play and overwhelming to calm dogs because she doesn’t take no for an answer—because who wouldn’t want to play with her? For a playful dog she is a best friend since she can go on and on running and wrestling. Stuffy adores people and is tolerant of everything. She frequently gets picked up to get put in her kennel and doesn’t even mind “air jail”. Will she tell you her opinions of being locked up…absolutely. Stuffy is not for apartments or shared walls unless your neighbors too would like to hear her opinions shouted. She is housetrained, crates for the workday, and does mind her manners in the house as best as her little mischievous self can—she doesn’t know how the trash can got tipped over or why the barbie doesn’t have feet anymore but definitely probably was not her ;). Stuffy will bring so much love, happy chaos, and fun to any house lucky enough to choose her.

Requirements: Training sign up recommended

Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Name: Tarot
Breed: Belgian Tervuren/ Dutch Shepherd Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Description: A pretty face and legs up to here, Tarot has all the makings of a model. He doesn't have a big head about it though! This humble guy came into a local impound after suffering a horrific injury at the hands of someone who had just purchased him in the days prior. He has spent the last few months healing and his wound is almost fully healed and he is nearly ready to find his forever home! He is an absolute love. He had endless patience with all the bandage changes, the cone wearing, and the vet visits. He didn't enjoy the short term restricted activity though! Thankfully it was only a week and he was cleared to be his playful self. This guy is the energy level you'd expect from his breeds and needs an active home who can tire him out mentally and physically. He is smart, he loves to work out puzzle and food toys, and is an excellent walking/jogging partner. He is quite the water dog as well! He is excellent with dogs and likes to play with them though equally loves his humans and would be happy in a home with or without another dog. He is housetrained and crates well but prefers to be in a dog-proofed area rather than a crate when alone. He is gated in the hallway with a bone and dog bed at his foster home and he does much better with that than in the crate

Requirements: Training sign up required

Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.

Teddy is a snuggler and loves to cuddle! He also loves toys, walks, and being silly just like any puppy. He is still a puppy so his home should plan for continued training and socialization to keep shaping him into the best dog he can be. Teddy is expected to be a large sized dog as an adult.
